The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) was established by the Government of India under the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority Act passed by the Parliament in December 1985. APEDA is a statutory body and It functions under the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry. APEDA replaced the Processed Food Export Promotion Council (PFEPC).

THE AGRICULTURAL AND PROCESSED FOOD PRODUCTS EXPORT DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY ACT, 1985 is an Act to provide for the establishment of an Authority for the development and promotion of exports of certain agricultural and processed food products and for matters connected therewith. BE it enacted by Parliament in the Thirty-sixth Year of the Republic of India
